Along with its 500W sibling, the 250W Neo-Classic Monoblock is one of Manley’s two most powerful amplifiers currently in production. Two switchable operational settings are available to listeners: Triode mode delivers sonically seductive qualities, while ultra-linear mode offers up even more power in a configuration that achieves the best of both worlds between triode and tetrode methods.
Where’s The Beef?
Big and – to use Manley’s favoured term – ‘beefy' reservoir capacitors are employed across the Neo-Classic 250’s high voltage power supply. Plenty of energy is instantly available for a truly dynamic performance delivering pristine transient peaks as well as solid bass impact often exceeding the performance of solid-state competition.
While high voltages are applied to the output tube plates, the Neo-Classic design opts to run them at a lower current increasing the usage and life of the tube over time. Each amplifier is fitted with computer batched tubes for optimum unified performance and bias adjustment pots can be found behind the amplifier’s front panel oval emblem.
