Barely a year on from the launch of their highly acclaimed Elear and Utopia models, Focal is already expanding its high-end headphone range. Meet our newest good-looking open-back friend: Clear.
Focal Clear open-back high-end Headphones
Clear represents a brand new evolutionary step for Focal's open-back full-range speaker driver headphone range and has been shaped extensively by feedback on its two predecessors. The new addition has been tuned to deliver a complementary yet discrete sound, with bass response capabilities pitched almost directly halfway between that of the Elear and Utopia models.
Focal Clear's 'frameless' copper voice coil assembly
Beneath the outer cup-guards, keen eyes will recognise Focal's M-shape aluminium/magnesium dome inherited from the Elear model but this time sporting a newly designed 'frameless' copper voice coil. The result is an increased magnetic field and exceptionally dynamic sound characteristics. Bass remains controlled whilst high frequencies experience unprecedented linearity for the headphone's price-point.
Focal Clear perforated microfibre ear cushions
Clear's ear cushions have also been upgraded, with a new generation of perforated microfibre material utilised to offer an extremely comfortable and open listening experience.
To cater for multiple source compatibilities and a wide number of listening scenarios, Clear includes a selection of cables: 3m XLR 4-pin, 3m 1/4" TRS jack, 1.2m 1/8" TRS jack, 1/8" - 1/4" stereo jack adaptor. A rigid hard case has also been included for ease of transport and storage.

The goal of Focal's Clear is to create an industry-standard open-back listening reference headphone under £2000. Have they done it? We think so.
