For over a decade, the Solo6 - the smallest member of Focal’s SM6 ‘Be / Berylium’ line - has enjoyed a decorated reign as a go-to precision monitoring speaker for music producers, mixing studios and commercial mastering suites. The Solo6 offers insight into an unprecedented frequency range for its size, thanks in part to Focal’s in-house designed XTB871 pure beryllium tweeter driver.
Why did Focal choose Beryllium? Get the full story here.
With the introduction of their new flagship Trio11 mid/nearfield monitor earlier this year, Focal evolved their patented tweeter design further still to include a protective lattice grille which guards the tweeter’s diaphragm from dust and other plosives.
In 2020, Focal Solo6 Be models will begin to incorporate the same grille technology to offer the same protection to the underlying driver as well as maintain the range’s stylish aesthetic.
Amp That Grille!
Focal's updated Solo design features another change less visible from the outside. Whilst the new grille attachment is optimised for as much transparency as possible, there is still a mild impact on the frequency response curve of the HF driver, which is compensated for by Focal’s new Solo6 amplifier circuit. This new and improved amplifier is integrated into every new Solo6 model manufactured from Jan 2020.
