An enormous chunk of our beloved industry left the UK’s drizzly shores last week to attend the hugely popular Winter NAMM Show in Anaheim California. Amongst the multitude of product launches and music industry awards were some particularly exciting announcements from SCV’s UK-distributed lines. Standing on ceremony no further, lets dive in.
Avantone Pro
Avantone’s reign as the king of affordable analogue gear shows no signs of slowing down. A massive influx of new innovations were announced this year from microphones to speakers and accessories.
MP1 Black – A sleek cosmetic redesign of their infamous MixPhone headphone, designed (like their cream counterpart) for mixing and mastering duties and equipped with built-in switchable Mono and MixCube modes.
AV10 MHF/MLF – A remarkable introduction that drew the attention of many NAMM 2018 visitors. Avantone have been painstakingly reverse engineered the drivers of Yamaha’s infamous and discontinued NS10M speakers to deliver the AV10 MHF (high frequency) and MLF (low frequency), bolt-in replacements with closely matching frequency ranges and cross-overs. For as their slogan goes – "you can’t live for ever, but your NS10s can.”
MixCube Active Red – Marking Avantone’s 10th anniversary of the original MixCube studio monitor, this new edition features a striking Ferrari Red outer finish and jet-black power block at the rear of the speaker.
CK6+/CK7+ – Based on Avantone’s widely-used CK6 and CK7 cardioid and multi-pattern FET condensers, the CK6+ and CK7+ employ a new capsule design to offer an even airier top-end whilst maintaining a solid and thick-sounding low-end.
FTAS – Avantone’s first foray into vocal booth solutions, the FTAS or ‘Flip Top Acoustic Shield’ offers an elegant isolating solution featuring wooden outer panelling.
IsoAcoustics
At IsoAcoustics' well-attended NAMM 2018 press conference, IsoAcoustics President Dave Morrison announced that the L8R range would be retired, making way for an extremely exciting new series of next-gen isolating stands.
'ISO’ Series – ISO is a new series of professional desktop studio monitor stands continuing the same well-thought-out acoustic philosophy. The new range features a contemporary design and lower profile footing to enable easier alignment with consoles and studio furniture. ISO stands aim to eliminate as much energy transfer into supporting surfaces as possible, enhancing imaging and letting monitors really do what they do best.
