The Custom Opto Compressor from Slate Digital brings the desirable vintage character of optical compression to a vehicle loaded with tweakable modern parameters. Multiple coveted analogue units from the 70s and 80s were studied in devastating detail to accurately emulate the behaviour of tubes, optical cells and other components found in some of the industries favourite compressors.
Whether used on individual tracks or on the bus of a full mix, the Custom Opto Compressor injects scope, tone and warmth into projects. By using the five-way tone selector, multiple new sonic effects can be achieved extending the scope of corresponding vintage analogue hardware. The Smooth setting rounds harsher tops while the Warm setting adds a fatness to the midrange. Then the Aggro setting raises the snap and punch, while Airy opens the top end for breathy new highs.
Ratio and speed controls are then on offer to handle the traditional tasks of managing gain reduction and controlling the circuit’s response respectively.
