The Elector's 2 VU meters display levels direct from any connected source. Measurement is slowed by the mechanical design of each meter which averages out peaks of short duration and reflects perceived loudness or energy better than many traditional designs.
Many audio professionals in recent years have lamented the dwindling presence of tape monitor options in modern preamps. SPL's engineers listened, and the Elector features a stereo return and send on the rear panel ready for use. The tape monitor stage may also be used for inserting external signal processing equipment such as equalisers to further tune in the sound.
Some consumer tape machines may clip when exposed to levels that Elector normally handles. To alleviate this problem and prevent distortion or peaks, a level calibration switch on the rear of the Elector can reduce outgoing levels by 10 dB whilst simultaneously lifting them at the return stage to avoid any drop in level.
The Elector features 6 analogue inputs, three of which are balanced with 3-pin XLR connectors and marker LED indicators. Also on the reverse of the unit are two sets of outputs, one set direct and one dedicated for preamp routing, again via balanced XLRs.
As true analogue tradition dictates, the Elector is also furnished with two mechanical VU meters optimised for displaying a range of different signal levels.
Elector's volume stage is powered by an SPL signature 120 V rail for a combination of immense headroom and negligible distortion. The external volume control itself features a large RK27 'Big Blue' potentiometer manufactured by ALPS for exquisite feel and intelligent channel matching.
Volume can also be adjusted by the Elector's highly programmable remote control. Different buttons can be reassigned to the user's preference using the 'Learn IR-Remote' button on the rear of the chassis. Full details can be found in the Elector's User Manual.
